WORLD renowned cue artists headed by Efren "Bata" Reyes and Francisco "Django" Bustamante are invited to compete in the KABAYAN World 9-Ball Invitational in Calapan City Oriental Mindoro.
The event named after Vice-President Noli De Castro, who hails from Pola, Oriental Mindoro, will coincide with the 54th founding anniversary of the province.
The field will be composed of 16 invited players – eight locals and eight foreigners – divided into four groups.
The top two players in the group elimination will advance into the knockout round.
"We're excited to witness world class billiards here in Oriental Mindoro," said youthful governor Arman Panaligan, also a former mayor of Calapan City.
Provincial board member Butch Soller, who brought up the idea to Panaligan, will organize the event.
"This is the first time that Oriental Mindoro will stage a tournament this big. We're both nervous and excited," Soller said.
All players are guaranteed of at least $500.
